Center for Medical Genetics (CMG) is a non-profit genetic testing laboratory in Chennai founded by Dr V G Dev. The Laboratory was established in March 2011 and started its full-fledged operation with an objective of providing a comprehensive medical genetics service to public since 2012. The primary goal of CMG is prevention of birth defects through patient services, academics, training and research. This lab functions under the able guidance of the founder and chairman Dr. Vaithilingam G Dev, PhD, USA. We have served more than 10,000 beneficiaries so far. We do free service for unaffordable and at a nominal cost for affordable patients.
Center for Medical Genetics (CMG) is a project run by Vaithilingam Parashakthi Elamathi Trust, with the objective of providing complete genetic solution within the reach of every individual, while maintaining excellence in quality.
Our genetic laboratory has state of the art infrastructure to perform cytogenetics and Fluorescent In situ Hybridization (FISH) techniques. The laboratory, due to its strong excellent and impeccable technical support with reliable quality of results, has shown a steady growth in flow of samples over the years.
As part of diagnostic services we offer cytogenetics/karyotyping, molecular genetics tests and genetic counseling. Our tests include peripheral blood and bone marrow karyotyping, gene screening through gene panels for various genetic disorders including malignancies. We have recently introduced Fluorescent-In-Situ hybridization (FISH) techniques for acute and chronic myeloid leukemia both for diagnosis and prognosis.
Over the past few years we have steadily increased our sample flow. We have a very efficient and skilled team that gives accurate reports with a turn-around-time of 10 working days for peripheral blood and bone marrow and 5-10 working days for FISH reports. These are one of the best turn-around-times.
CMG has been playing a pivotal role in genetics knowledge sharing among researchers and research aspirants. Hence, apart from diagnostics, we also focus on academics and research. As part of our academic activities, we organize lectures, scientific interactions, Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs and workshops with national and international experts in the field of medical genetics. We have conducted several CME programs in our premises and elsewhere including Sri Ramachandra University.
We offer teaching and hands-on training programs for students from arts and sciences and engineering colleges. We have also had students from the United States of America. We are recognized as Practice School-1 center by Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani. We are also affiliated to SRM university for our PhD program. One student is currently pursuing her doctoral programs.
Our future goals include NABL Accreditation, molecular diagnostics to name a few.
We are a non-profit organization and we seek for donations, which are tax-exempted.
